Two Women Detained at Toronto Airport with Over $1 Million in Cash

Toronto Pearson International Airport authorities have detained two women after discovering more than $1,000,000 in cash hidden in their luggage during a routine security check.

The women, both Canadian citizens in their early 30s, were preparing to board an international flight when border agents flagged their suitcases for further inspection. Upon opening the bags, officers uncovered bundles of Canadian and U.S. currency tightly wrapped in plastic and concealed within false compartments.

According to a spokesperson for the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), the passengers failed to declare the funds, which significantly exceeds the legal threshold of $10,000 CAD for international travel without disclosure.

“Our officers are trained to detect unusual patterns and behaviors. This seizure is part of our ongoing effort to prevent illicit financial activities and potential money laundering,” the CBSA statement said.

The money has been confiscated and an investigation is now underway. Authorities are working to determine the origin of the funds and whether the incident is linked to a larger criminal operation.

Both women are cooperating with investigators and remain in custody pending further charges.

CBSA reminds travelers that all amounts over $10,000 CAD must be declared at customs. Failure to do so may result in seizure, fines, or legal action.
